Dumbledore vs. Voldemort: Which Book Chapter Is the Duel In?

The famous duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort happens in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 36, “The Only One He Ever Feared,” the chapter we discuss on this episode. After Sirius is killed in the Department of Mysteries, Harry chases Bellatrix Lestrange into the Atrium of the Ministry of Magic, where Voldemort appears. Dumbledore arrives just in time, and the two greatest wizards of the age face off, with Dumbledore bringing the statues of the Fountain of Magical Brethren to life to protect Harry.

Voldemort briefly possesses Harry before fleeing with Bellatrix, but not before Cornelius Fudge and Ministry officials see him with their own eyes. The chapter title comes from the long held belief that Dumbledore is the only wizard Voldemort has ever feared.
