Episode #397: Blue Fire Toasted

  • Zoe Kravitz tells Dan Fogler that Leta getting “Blue Fired Toasted” may’ve been a “last minute change” — What does that mean?
  • Fantastic Beasts 2 raised a lot of questions, but what about the questions the first movie raised? We revisit the first movie to see what FB2 didn’t answer. Including….
  • What’s going on with that Obscurus in Newt’s suitcase?
  • Where is the real Graves?
  • WHO is taking care of Jacob’s bakery?
  • Which bad memories were erased by the Swooping Evil?
  • Why was Newt expelled?
  • Inconsistencies between FB1 and FB2: MACUSA, Credence’s haircut, Queenie, and Accio
  • Voicemails address a theory on Voldemort making Nagini a Horcrux, McGonagall and Time Turners, and why Credence must go ‘freely’ to Grindelwald.
  • Quizzitch: What historical accuser of witches, later among the accused herself, is name dropped by Tina Goldstein and is also a character in Arthur Miller’s ‘the Crucible?’

  1. I’ve heard/read the time turner theory a couple of times now and there’s no way it’s even remotely plausible.
First, JKR has stated that she thinks time travel is a finnicky beast. It tends to screw up plots and that’s why she has destroyed them in OOTP. So I doubt she’d just go ahead and introduce them again just to drop a name.
Then there’s the thing that time turners only work in a couple hours time span (disregarding Cursed Child). There’s additional details on that in one of the companion books (Heroes, Hardships, etc), but I can’t remember which one.
Also, McGonagall didn’t have one just lying around, she explicitly stated having to fill out a metric crapton of paperwork to get one from the ministry for Hermione

  2. My interpretation of Leta being a “taker” is that she’s emotionally needy, and Newt, being socially awkward and possibly on the Autism spectrum, can’t give her the kind of emotional response she needs.

As for Grindelwald’s impersonation of Graves in the first movie, the script book doesn’t mention how the transformation was achieved.
